Sunday 23rd September 2018 – Stellplatz Carthago Factory, Aulendorf

N47°56’16” E09°39’10”

It’s free to park here, water and ehu are €0.50.

We have decided to call in at the factory as our UK motorhome dealer has been trying to arrange an appointment for us to get some outstanding warranty work completed, as they contacted Carthago 12 weeks ago and have not received a reply.

The impression we got was that if we had not been able to show them copies of our dealer’s emails they would not have dealt with us at all.

The service centre manager has been very helpful, he said that under the circumstances if he had a free slot he would have fitted us in he has even tried to get us an appointment with a local dealer but unfortunately they are fully booked.

They did arrange for the dometic engineer to look at our oven, he has ordered new hinges and we have to go back next Tuesday to get them fitted.

If you want warranty work done to your motorhome don’t buy a Carthago and don't hold your breath waiting for them to call you back .

We have been for a lovely cycle to the two fairytale castles and have wandered around the beautiful town.

We were surprised to see that the lake near to the stellplatz is so dry and where usually there are boats sailing and people swimming .

We are going to stay here for a few days.

We arrived at Honfleur mid morning, we have never seen the Aire so full, Honfleur town is lovely but when it’s this busy the aire is not a pleasant place to be.

Parked up the road in the E.Leclerc car park, as its Sunday the supermarket was closed.
we had a peaceful night just us and there HGV ‘s from the Netherlands.

We hadn’t realised that Monday is a French national holiday which explains why everywhere is so busy.

17th May 2018 – Chezelles Aire

N46°45’58.80”E0°30’39.78”

When we left today we were heading for the Aire at Vivonne when we arrived the main car park was fairly busy, there are only 3 designated motorhome parking bays and the only one left was right next to the smelly service point so we decided to have some lunch then find somewhere else to spend the night.

We headed for Chezelles Aire, the parking and services are free and it’s not far off the main road.

The grass in the field had not been cut so the only parking was on the hard standing at the service point, there is room for 3 or 4 vans to park here. We believe that in the summer the grass is cut and there is also parking on the field near the river.

Several other vans pulled into the aire to fill up with water but we were the only ones to stay overnight on the hard standing. Two small vans drove down the muddy track and spent the night next to the river fishing.

We walked through the park along by the river to the Ciudadela de Pamplona, a beautiful park inside the old city walls, then into the old part of the city, lots of shops, cafes and bars.

Wednesday 9th May 2018 – Olite Aire

N42°28’48.84” W1°38’51.66”

This morning we were woken up at 5am when the sprinklers in the park behind the parking area sprayed all over the back of the motorhome so we decided to get an early start and head to Olite just over 300km drive.

The aire is just outside the medieval walled town, free parking, water and services with a maximum stay of 48 hours.

The town is lovely, lots of narrow streets with medieval houses and it has a fairy-tail castle and lots of tiny interesting shops and a few bodegas.

Tuesday 8th May 2018 – Motorhome Parking, Turuel City

N40°19’57.17” W1°05’34.84”

We are parked in the Motorhome Parking in a mixed use car park opposite the Guardia Civil HQ in the new part of the city, it’s free to park here but there are no services.

It’s a 30 minute walk down hill and across the impressive footbridge to the old city.

It rained this morning but by lunchtime the sun was back and we spent a very pleasant afternoon exploring the warren of narrow cobbled streets discovering numerous small squares and some beautiful historic buildings.

The city is well worth a visit.

The bays are by the side of a quite road, we have had a wander around the town, there are some interesting buildings in the old town and a lovely park where we stopped for a cold beer.

Tuesday 24th April 2018 – Stop & Go La Volta Motorhome Parking, Peniscola

N40°23’51.34” E0°24’08.41”

We are now staying at Stop & Go La Volta, it’s a campsite that has a special area for motorhomes.

The main part of the campsite has lots of trees to provide shade but some pitches would be difficult to park a motorhome on, the area that we are parked in is open, the pitches are large enough to get your awning out, there are water taps on every second pitch.

We are paying €8 to park and an extra €3 for 6 amp ehu, there are showers and toilets and a washing up and laundry area. There is also a bar and swimming pool on site.

There are lots of cycle paths in the town, we have cycled along the beach front and also to Lidl with very little cycling on a road.

Really nice campsite, good value and the town and beach front are lovely.

Saturday 21st April 2018 – Motorhome Parking Next to Castellon Private Airport

N39°59’56” E0°01’44”

Today we have moved about 2.6km up the coast to the free car park next to the airport, motorhome parking is tolerated here, there are no services and camping behaviour is not permitted.

We are parked opposite the beach with a view of the sea, there is some noise from the road and airport.

We cycled 7km on cycle paths to Bennicassim where we caught up with some friends and had some lunch at a beachside cafe.

There was some sort of military display taking place next to the castle in Bennicassim, cannons firing and a military band, we have no idea why.

Saturday 31st March 2018– Imperium Camping Alicante, Villajoyosa

We are almost at the end of our stay in Villajoyosa, when we first arrived here we were not that impressed with the location but having spent a few weeks here and done a bit of exploring we have in fact enjoyed our stay here.

There are lots of places to cycle, mostly on cycle paths or quiet roads and you can get the tram into Benidorm or Alicante.

There are a nice group of people staying here and we have spent a few “happy hours” in the site bar.

Wednesday 28th February 2018 – Imperium Camping Alicante

N38°31’04.70” W0°13’23.40”

Today we are heading to a Fiat Services Centre in Gandia as we have received finally received notification that our motorhome is included in the Fiat recall.

Automocion Moll SL, Fiat Service Centre
Avinguade de Villalonga
110 Gandia
N38°10’28.29” W0°10’28.29”

The garage was easy to find and it looked like access in the motorhome will be ok, we have been given an appointment for Tuesday to come back and find out exactly what needs to be done.

We then headed to Imperium Camping Alicante where we will be staying for a while.

Unfortunately the pitch they put us on was sloping to the side and the front of the motorhome, after spending two uncomfortable nights on our ramps with the motorhome creaking and groaning we asked to move to a flatter pitch.

We are now on a smaller but flatter pitch and are much more comfortable.

The site is relatively new, there is a restaurant and outdoor pool. The shower block is ok, cleaned regularly and plenty of hot water.

For us the site is a bit too far from the town and sea front, you really need a car or bikes if you stay here. The walk into town takes about 20 minutes and is not very pleasant, you walk through some very narrow roads and alleys and pass quiet a lot of barking dogs, it’s downhill on the way into town so uphill most of the way back.

We may be stuck here for a while waiting to sort out the Fiat recall.

It was raining this morning so we have moved to an official aire the other side of Alicante.

It costs €8 to park here for 24 hours and €2 to use the service point. Before you can enter you need to register using your passport number, name, address and email. Payment is by card only and the gates are locked at night.

We don’t think the aire has been here for very long  , there are ehu points on every pitch but they are not in use yet.

N37°23’52.92” W1°56’46.02”

We are now parked on the motorhome parking area in the corner of a huge car park in Huercal-Overa, the parking is free, water €0.50 token from the sports centre opposite. There is a drive over waste water point and a toilet emptying point.

There are lots of Swedish motorhomes here meeting for their annual boules competition, they have been allocated their own parking area. There is a market here every Monday morning but apart from that there would always be room to stop here.

The weather is lovely today, the town is surrounded by mountains and there are nice views from the parking area.

We have wandered around the town and came back with a delicious rotisserie chicken and potatoes.

There are plenty of shops a short walk away and a small park next to the parking area with all sorts of birds and animals in small enclosures.

Today we moved to the free beach car park at Roquetas de Mar, we are parked on compact sand which at the moment is a bit muddy due to the rain yesterday. Nice views of the beach and sea. There are no services here.

We have been for a walk in the sunshine along to the castle, stopped for a beer and tapas.

This is a typical Spanish seaside town, lovely beach with promenade all the way along and lots of cafes and bars.

N36°41’49.44” W2°47’38.10”

We got ready early this morning as we are heading for the Lidl Supermarket at El Ejido and want to get in before the car park gets too busy.

Lidl El Eljio – N36°45’31.23” W2°48’17.28”

There is plenty of room to park at the far end of the car park.
Opposite the supermarket there  is a Repsol Service Station that sells LPG

We are now parked at the massive Marina at Almerimar, €10 parking and services, €3 EHU. Pay at lighthouse.

There are two motorhome parking areas, we are parked along by the lighthouse with views over the marina, the other parking area is on the other side of the marina between the fence of the boat storage area and the harbour wall, only the first few motorhomes have a view of the beach.

There is plenty to do here, loads of bars and restaurants, a few supermarkets and washing machines.

The weather is lovely and despite both having horrible colds we have enjoyed strolling around the marine in the sunshine.

We then headed to the Motorhome Parking at Marina Valera Velez

N36°44’55.14” W4°03’57.18”

There were plenty of spaces when we arrived but entry is via a barrier and payment is at a ticket machine that requires you to register using your passport. It costs €12.33 for 24 hours parking and €3 for water.

As there was nowhere to stop outside the Aire while you struggle with the ticket machine and the entrance is also the exit we decided not to stop here.

We are now parked at the beach car park at Guardias Viejas, parking is free, no services here but you can use the services at the petrol station about 2km up the road for €2.

Today we cycled along the beach front to Malaga.

It’s about 10km mostly on a cycle path shared with pedestrian, lovely views and plenty of places to stop for coffee or lunch.

Sunday was probably not the best to cycle into Malaga, the route was very busy with locals out enjoying the sunshine and eating in fish restaurants overlooking the sea.

We cycled along by the beach and through the tunnels in the cliffs to have a look at the free beach parking at Rincon de la Victoria about 5km from Area Malaga Beach where we are staying. There were about 12 vans parked in a small sandy car park, not the nicest place to stay.

We stopped at a beachfront bar on the way back for a coffee in the sunshine.

Tuesday 6th February 2018 – Camper Stop Area Malaga Beach, La Cala del Moral

N36°42’50” W04°19’00”

It was bitterly cold last night, the forecast is for more cold nights so we topped up our LPG at the Repsol Services just off the A7 at Fuengirola.

Repsol Services N 36°33’31.08” W04°37’14.88” easy fill up, access to LPG pump on both sides.

Motorhome Parking near Carrafour, Los Patios – N36°41’12” W04°27’37”
We then headed to the parking area at Carrafour, Los Patios, just before Malaga that has a Motorhome service point. The services point is closed due to construction work and the area that the Motorhomes were parked in was a bit grim and some of them looked like they had been there for a while. Ok for an overnight stop if you arrived later in the day.

We decided to head for the Camper stop at Area Malaga Beach as it’s only a short drive.

When we arrived we were welcomed by a very friendly man who explained that they have a special offer at the moment, if you stay for 7 nights the EHU is free. The staff here are very helpful, despite having a queue of people waiting to check in he gave us lots of local information.

We are staying here for at least 7 nights €10 including services and EHU, if you stay for less than 7 days it’s €10 for your pitch and €3 for EHU. There are showers €1 and toilets here.

The site is right onto the beach, there is a gate (with security code) directly onto the beach, you can walk or cycle in both directions along the beachfront.

We have been into the town, there are a few cafe/bars on the seafront and a couple of supermarkets a few streets back in the main town.

Today we moved about 6km to the parking at Sohail Castle. No services or water here, parking is €2 for 24 hours, collected by the man in the little hut.

Lovely view from the parking area of the sea and the snow covered mountains in the distance, a bit of road noise from the A7.

Nice walk along by the beach, plenty of shops, bars and restaurants.

We walked to the other parking area in the town where the market is held, there are services here but it’s a bit grim, right in the middle of the town, the motorhomes are parked very close together, some of the look like they have been there forever. It’s much nicer where we are parked.

We are just a short walk from the town of Mijas and the beach front. There are several supermarkets within a few minutes’ walk and lots of bars and restaurants nearby.

22nd  January 2018 – Carrafour Supermarket car park

N36°10’45.77” W5°26’27.93”

Today we are heading for a retail shopping centre about 30km west of Gibraltar as Robert and Lynne want to buy pushbikes.

This parking is near to the place that you buy tickets for Morocco and not far from the ferry port so lots of motorhomes park here.

On the way here we filled up with LPG just of the carriageway on the other side of the road.

N36°12’14.94”ۜ W5°24’43.08”

Parking next to Marina €12.00 including services no EHU
N36°09’19.18” W005°21’14.39”

When we left Puerto do Santa Maria we were heading for a wild camping spot at Playa Bolonia, when we arrived there were quite a few motorhomes in car park by the beach, many of them looked like they had been there for a while. The parking area is sandy and uneven and due to the recent rain full of puddles and muddy areas. We decided not to stay and to drive another 100km to the aire at La Linea.

We are parked on a paved area overlooking the Marina with views of the Rock of Gibraltar behind us.
The aire is busy but many people only stay one night so there are usually spaces here.
There are washing machines €4 and dryers €3.

It’s about a 10 minute walk to the border with Gibralter, when you have crossed the border you can get a bus (number 5 or 10) into the centre, €3 for a return ticket.

Spirits and cigarettes are very cheap and there are lots of British shops here, M&S, Debenhams and Morrisons.

The weather is much better here, sunshine and no wind, we are enjoying exploring the Rock and will probably stay here for a few more days.

Tuesday 9th January 2018 – Rota Beachside Car Park

N36°38’19.56” W006°23’30.45”

There are two places to park at Rota, the official aire which is free to park in and has free services but no ehu and the beachside car park where motorhome parking is tolerated.

The beachside car park is the first exit off the roundabout the official aire the second exit.

We are parked at the beach car park which is much nicer than the official aire, there are boardwalks to the beach and plenty of  cycle paths.

Before we stopped here we called in at the Alde supermarket:
N36°38’09.28” W006°22’10.79”

The car park is large enough to take a mororhome in as long as it’s not busy, it was very quiet when we were there.

Monday 8th January 2018 –
Chipiona Beach Car Park

N36°44’37.8” W006°25’56.3”

Free Parking on Beach Car Park, no services

When we left this morning we headed to the nearby town of Jerez de la Frontera to fill up with LPG

Repsol Service Station N36°41.398’ W006°07.641’

It was an easy fill up, plenty of space and access to the LPG pump on both sides.

We then set off for the free beach car park at Chipiona, there are no services here but we did notice someone getting water from a beachside tap. There areabout 20 motorhomes parked here, plenty of room this time of the year.

The weather this morning was still not good, we walked into the centre of the town and found a supermarket, about 800m from the parking place.

The sun came out after lunch , we walked to the other side of the marina to have a look at the official
Morothome Parking Area. N36°44’41.16”’ W006°25’37.92”

There are no motorhomes parked here as no one can work out how to use the payment machine to open the barrier. We had a quick look, you need to enter your passport number and register before you can pay.

We believe that it’s €12.33 to park here and extra for services.

Thursday 4th January 2018 – Sanlucar De Barrameda, Cadiz

N36°45.721’ W006°23.681’

Parking and services -€8, 3amp ehu - €2

We had intended to stay in Seville for the Three Kings Parade but heavy rain is forecast for the next couple of days so we have moved about 120km to an aire at Sanlucar De Barrameda where we can get electric hook up.

The aire is set out like a small campsite with toilets, showers and a washing machine.
Alfonsa the owner is very helpful and speaks a little English.

We are about 50m from the beach and there is a small shop 400m walk from the aire.
Since we arrived we have had a day of heavy rain followed by a day of high winds. Today, Sunday is much better, blue sky and the wind has dropped.

The highlight of our stay was the Three Kings Parade, the parade stated on the road outside the aire, we were showered with sweets and confetti!

We are planning to move on tomorrow to another parking place just along the coast.

Area de Autocaravans de Seville – N37°21’44” W5°59’40”

Secured parking opposite port at car Export Company, €12 including services, EHU €3.00

The motorhome parking is in an industrial area and is rather noisy night and day.

The parking is secure which is what you want when visiting a large city, it’s takes about 30 minutes to walkover the bridge to the beautiful city of Seville.

Seville is well worth a visit, we have spent two days here but  still haven’t explored properly, if we return we would probable try to park in the mixed car park nearer to the City centre, N37°22.380’W5°59.610’. Secured parking with services in a more pleasant location.

Monday 18th September 2017 –Algarve Motorhome Park, Falesia, Portugal

We arrived here at lunchtime, so good to be back and meet up with old friends.

We will stay here for a while and continue our travels in the new year.

Algarve Motorhome Park

Friday 15th September 2017 – Heading to Portugal

As the weather in Germany has not been good for the last week we are have decided it’s time to head south for the winter.

Thursday 14th September 2017 – Carthago Factory Stellplatz, Aulendorf, Germany

N47°56’16” E9°39’11”

Free Parking in large designated bays, water €0.50 EHU €0.50

We called into the service centre as there were a couple of things we were hoping to buy only to be told that they were unable to sell us anything. They referred us to a Carthago dealer near Lake Constance.

The lock on our freezer door has broken and the service centre did send the Dometic engineer over to replace it free of charge as it’s under guarantee so our visit wasn’t a total waste of time.

There is a large showroom here with most of the carthago motorhomes on show.

The weather is horrible again and the Stellplatz is in an exposed location so we have decided not to stay for a 2nd night and to forgo our factory tour tomorrow.

Wednesday 13th September 2017 – Bad Waldsee Stellplatz, Germany

N47°54’51.66” E9°45’37.48”

Parking on hardstanding in large car park,€6.00 plus €2 per person, water €0.50, EHU buy a token from the ticket machine.

Stellplatz is opposite a thermal baths, the town is pleasant with plenty of shops.

The historic part of the town is pedestrian zone. We walked around the pretty lake at the edge of town but the weather was not good, we got soaked and a bit lost on our way back.

Bad Waldsee is the home of the Hymer Museum which is located just outside the town, if you are visiting take your motorhome or the bus.

A bread van calls at the stellplatz in the morning.

Tuesday 12th September 2017 – Friedrichshafen Stellplatz, Lake Constance, Germany

N47°39’01.32” E9°29’45.43”

Parking on hardstanding, €13.20 for 24 hours, EHU €0.50, water €0.50

We arrived here at 9.30am there were only 2 motorhomes in the stellplatz.

We walked along the lake to the ferry port and the Zeppelin Museum €9 per person, quite interesting.
The walk along the lakeside is lovely, it’s a shame the weather wasn’t better, there is a steel tower on the lake’s pier that you can climb to view the city and the Alps, we didn’t climb it.

The lakeside is dotted with cafes and restaurants, we would have stayed longer if the sun had been shining.

The stellplatz was full by 5pm.

Friday 8th September 2017 – Fussen Stellplatz, Romantic Road, Germany

N47°34’57” E10°42’12”

Parking on hardstanding €15 for 24 hours, €0.50 for 150 ltrs water, €1 for 8 hours EHU

Fussen is a 244 km drive today, motorway almost all of the way which was rather nice after some of the narrow roads and small towns we drove through yesterday.
We arrived at Fussen as about 10.30am, there are three places to park here all in the same road.
The first stellplatz you come to has a small accessory shop, you pay for parking at the sports centre opposite.
We are parked in the stellplatz opposite Lidl, this is the 2nd parking area of the bigger stellplatz at the end of the road by the roundabout. We chose to park here because it is quieter and you have a bit more space. You pay for parking at the ticket machine outside reception in the main parking area.
By 4pm the stellplatz was completely full and a chain had been places across the entrance.
During the afternoon and evening over 50 motorhomes tried unsuccessfully to find a place to stop.
We are planning to stay here for a few days before we move on to visit the Carthago factory.

Fussen

2nd stop – Rothenburgh ob der Tauber Stellplatz, Romantic Road, German

N49°22’56.702 E 10°11’18.53”

Parking in mixed car park with designated bays for motorhomes, €10 for 24 hours, water extra
The parking is a bit cramped and sloping, this was not the Stellplatz we intened to stop at so we moved on.

Rothernburg ob der Tauber Stellplatz, Romantic Road, Germany

N49°22’14.73” E10°10’59.19”

Parking for motorhomes only on more level hardstanding, €10 for 24 hours, water and EHU extra, 90 places

Much nicer place to stay, the parking is split into two areas, as you enter the parking on the right has EHU, this area was full and appeared to be more cramped than the area on the left where we parked. There is no EHU available in this area. Pay at machine.

There are several supermarkets within easy walking distance from the stellplatz.
It’s a 5 minute walk to the walled town, you can see a few of the towers from the stellplatz.
The 2 ½ km 14th century Town Wall encircles the city and has many towers dotted along it. We entered the city via the tower just across the road fron the stellplatz which you can explore for free.
The town is beautiful with half timbered houses, statues, churches and museums. I think you could spend a week here and still not see everything. Well worth a visit, it’s now one of my favourite places in Germany.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber

Thursday 7th September 2017 – 1st stop -  Bad Mergentheim Stellplatz, Romantic Road,  Germany

N49°29’34.02” E09°49’32.57”

Designated parking in car park, ticket machine not working so did not pay

The car park is next to a really pretty park which you walk through to get to the Medieval Town.
We spent a pleasant couple of hours exploring the town and had some lunch. As its still early we are now heading to Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

Wednesday 6th September 2017 – Erwin Hymer World Stellplatz, Wertheim, Germany

N49°46’23.43” E09°34’47.90”

Free Parking on hardstanding, Water €1, EHU €1 for 3 hours, 90 places

The forecast on the Mosel is heavy rain for the rest of the week so we have decided to move on today.
We called into Globus at Zell to stock up with food before heading 221km to the Wertheim.
The stellplatz is just off the A3 motorway outside the huge Hymer showroom with motorhomes and caravans built by all of the brands in the Hymer group. There is also an extensive accessory shop and service centre here.
Just across the road is the Wertheim Village Designer Outlet, a chocolate factory and a cafe in an upside down house. MacDonald’s is 200m from the stellplatz.

Monday 4th September 2017 – Wintrich Stellplatz, Mosel, Germany

N49°52’59.02” E06°56’54”

Parking on hardstanding and grass €9 including EHU, water €1.00 or €0.10

We arrived at the Wintrich Stellplatz just after 10am and were lucky enough to pull in just as another motorhome was leaving a hardstanding pitch next to the river.

The entrance to this stellplatz is barrier controlled, you take a ticket on the way in and pay at the ticket machine by the exit barrier on the way out. When we arrived the entrance barrier was working but someone had broken into the payment machine and the exit barrier was out of order.
We have paid the man who oversees the Stellplatz for 2 nights and will have to get him to let us out as your ticket is not validated until you pay at the machine.

There is a Wine festival in the town this weekend, we were thinking about staying for it but will probably move on before then as several days of heavy rain are forecast from Friday.

We drove to the Stellplatz at the Niesmann-Bischoff Factory, you can stop here overnight for free but we are just stopping for a bit to have a look at the accessory shop there.

Sog Factory, Lof, Mosel – N50°13’54” E07°26’12”

The weather is a bit overcast today so we are going for a bit of a drive.
As we have managed to lose the screw top to our sog toilet down a drain we headed to the Sog Factory at Lof on the Mosel.
The very helpful staff found a replacement for us but we were a bit shocked that it cost €28!
There is a Stellplatz at the factory, parking is free and there are services here.

We are on the move again today, back to Globus for shopping then heading for the Stellplatz at Zell.
The stellplatz is busy, we are parked on grass and have no EHU but we are right next to the river with views of the vines all around us.
It’s still really hot during the day but it cools down at night.
We have walked across the bridge to the town a couple of times, lots of restaurants and bars.

Having a great time with Chris and Audrey, drinking and eating far too much.

Globus Supermarket Zell - N50°01’31.89” E07°09’30.07”
We are meeting up Chris and Audrey who we met on the Mosel last year.
Once again we have been lucky, we are parked in a lovely spot right next to the river with views of the vines on the opposite side of the valley.
The weather has improved today, bright sunshine and 26°c.
There is a festival in the town starting on Friday so we may decide to stay for the weekend.

Hardstanding and grass parking €6, EHU 6 amp - €2, Water - free

Before heading to St Aldegund this morning we stopped at the service point to fill up with water.
I was put in charge of holding the hose pipe and unfortunately managed to separate the hose from the filler attachment which then disappeared into the motorhome water tank!
Paul eventually managed to extract it using a bit of an umbrella with a command sticky pad wrapped around the end.

The umbrella is in the bin and I’m on the naughty step.
We are now parked with a river view, the sun is shining and we have EHU.
